I was asked what I thought was the biggest problem we face right now. This was right after he called me a pundit. I don’t know if I should be honored or insulted by being called that, but it’s easy to see what I think is the biggest problem we have; a loss of honor. With that in mind;
Honor is about doing what’s right, not what’s easy. It’s sticking to your principles, even if it isn’t profitable. How fast do you think we could solve our problems in this country, if the first thing we demanded from our leaders was a sense of honor? When is the last time an honorable person ran for elected office? Most honorable people avoid politics, as they won’t compromise their principles. The sewer we have allowed our politics to devolve into won’t allow any other kind to get elected. This, I feel, is the root cause of our major problems right now. In 2008, the candidates for president raised 1.7 BILLION dollars from donors. In 2012, the president alone is expected to raise 1 BILLION dollars by himself. Nobody gives up that kind of money without expecting something back in return. We are watching our futures being sold off to the highest bidders.
One thing I believe the president got right in his speech last night, there is nothing wrong with the American people, the problem is with the circus that Washington has become. Unprincipled politicians selling off favors to the highest bidders.
Diogenes roamed the world with his candle searching for an honest man. Had he conducted that search in Washington, he would have had that candle stolen before he got around the block.
