Today marks the birthday of Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Story epitomizes the American dream. After a few rough starts, false starts and restarts, a couple bankruptcies and getting through a few back stabbings; he turned his dream into one of the most recognized brands in the world.

At one point during the 1950′s, things weren’t going too well for Walt. Betty Boop and Bugs Bunny had taken over as the most popular cartoons in America. His last couple of movies didn’t reach box office expectations. During all this, Walt was pouring all his time and money into his “Magic Kingdom”,an amusement park in Southern California. But in the newspapers it was being called “Disney’s Folly”. All the critics and Hollywood watchers were convinced this was the end of Walt Disney Studios. Delays, cost over-runs and competition, Disney could not possibly survive they said. “Impossible.” At least that’s what the critics said.

How dull and dreary this world would be had Walt Disney listened to the critics and just remained making silly cartoons?
