What a way to end the week; today marks the birthday of Eric Clapton. Probably the biggest musical influence in my life, Eric is recognized as one of the finest players to ever stretch a guitar string. Never comfortable in the spotlight, Eric seems to have spent most of his life actually running away from fame. After his biggest commercial success, the ground-breaking “Unplugged” session, and ‘Tears In Heaven’, Eric was under tremendous pressure to follow it up with another acoustic record filled with ballads. He instead stunned the music industry by releasing a CD full of electrified old blues … Continue reading →
Finishing up the first chapter of Jenna’s second-hand story, and it seems to have put a touch of magic in the air. If you know how to look for it. I still believe magic is everywhere, you just have to look for it. Most people quit looking. That’s why they don’t see it, or worse, believe to be only a children’s story. Have a Magical Day. For your amusement; The first post from Jenna’s Story has been posted here; A Second-Hand Wish
I guess I’ve been really busy the last few days. I barely noted yesterday’s birthday of Leonard Nimoy, the noted Vulcan thespian. It seems like it was only a few days ago we celebrated the Birth of Awesome with “The Shat’s” birthday, and here we are celebrating the Birth of Logic. My how time flies; For better or worse, I was probably influenced more by the logical Spock than I ever was by the intrepid Captain Kirk. My wife and I had a few laughs about it being Spock’s birthday yesterday, as that used to be her pet name for … Continue reading →
Spent the entire weekend in the gardens, and getting things ready for the summer. It will be a busy summer indeed, and that requires a lot of time. I didn’t have time to plan a normal column today, so I’m turning it over for a guest column from Kandy’s Korner. And for your amusement a few from the upcoming “A Second-Hand Wish”; Tune in tomorrow when we should resume normal blabberings. If the fairies let me loose. The first chapter from A Second-Hand Wish is posted at Kandy’s Korner.
I spent some time this week reading up on the current debates raging in the public square. Seems to me, a reminder is needed; especially to myself. I beg pardon for a selfish column today, but I need to remind myself of a few words that seem to be entirely missing from the current arguments; Pick any one of the current debates, any one. Have you heard these words used? Or are you hearing that it’s always someone else’s fault, some one else’s responsibility? Character, reputation, honor, shame; seems we’ve forgotten what they mean, therefor, I must constantly remind myself … Continue reading →
Today is the anniversary of awesome. Today is the birthday of William Shatner. To simply say he played Captain Kirk on a TV Series, would be a complete disservice to his awesomeness. I was one of the original trekkies. I sat in front of the TV every week waiting for the adventures of the USS Enterprise and its intrepid captain. When the show was cancelled, I went on to other boyhood pursuits. But the phenomena that was Star Trek went on without me. As for Shatner, there were other series, other characters and shows. I could never understand the Trekkies … Continue reading →
Rained most of the day yesterday, got about six inches here. Some time during the night, the clouds broke, and this morning arrived with the brightness and bluster that more befits the coming spring. Now, it seems like spring. The cardinals are calling for breakfast and the coffee’s fresh. The flowers are in bloom, and the sun is out.
Last night, Spring arrived. Today is the first day of Real Spring. I don’t know how it is where you are, but here, it brought the rain. Lots of rain. Lots and lots of rain. And there is only one thing to do when it rains so much; Have a dry day today.
Must be Monday; trying to put together a coherent thought, and everything keeps getting jumbled together. Every time I stumble across a brilliant idea for a column, my thoughts seem to wander off and just make a mess of things. Let me show you what I mean; Simple enough right? Well, not on a Monday. Now, you see the dilemma. I can’t tell if I’m writing a funny thought on fools, fools are always funny. Monday is a good day for jokes, start the week off laughing and all that. But maybe I was trying to write a witty … Continue reading →
Late at night, when I can’t sleep, I ponder the deep questions of life. Not questions like; “What is the meaning of life?” or “Why are we here?” I mean the important stuff, the questions that have no answer; Now you know why I never sleep. Have a great weekend.
Did you hear that? I didn’t either. I woke up, and silently poured a cup of coffee. Sipped the coffee on the porch, with nothing but the muffled warbling of a few cardinals for a soundtrack. After a five day visit, the kids must be gone. There is nothing this morning to disturb the quiet. Coffee in the garden and silence, delicious silence. Life must be returning to normal. A second cup of coffee, a quick smoke, and silence. I made it to the deck without having to step through a minefield of toys, dirty clothes and sleeping children. Did … Continue reading →
